Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, pumpkin puree, cacao powder, and sugar. Whisk together over medium heat until fully combined and smooth.
Continue to heat the mixture while whisking until it begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
Once heated through, remove from heat and stir in the pumpkin pie spice and vanilla extract. Mix well.
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, filling them approximately three-quarters full.
Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon on top for added flavor and aroma.
If desired, add chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs for an extra chocolatey crunch.
Notes
Serve with a cinnamon stick or a slice of pumpkin bread on the side for a cozy touch.
