1batchhomemade brownies (or store-bought, about 9x9 inch pan)
2cupsfresh or frozen cherries, pitted and halved
1cupheavy whipping cream
0.5cuppowdered sugar
1teaspoonvanilla extract
1cupchocolate pudding (store-bought or homemade)
0.5cupchocolate shavings (for garnish)
to tastefresh mint leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Brownies: If making homemade brownies, bake them according to your favorite recipe. Allow them to cool completely before cutting them into bite-sized cubes. If using store-bought, open the package and cut the brownies into cubes as well.
Make Cherry Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the pitted and halved cherries with about 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar. Toss gently and set aside for about 15 minutes to allow the cherries to release some juices.
Whip the Cream: In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with the remaining powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat.
Layer the Trifle: In a large glass trifle dish or individual serving cups, start layering. Begin with a layer of brownie cubes at the bottom. Follow with a layer of chocolate pudding, then a layer of the cherry mixture, and finally a layer of the whipped cream.
Repeat Layers: Repeat the layering process until you fill the cup or dish, ending with a layer of whipped cream on top.
Chill: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the layers to set.
Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, garnish the top with chocolate shavings and fresh mint leaves for an elegant touch.
Notes
Serve in clear glass dishes to showcase the layers. A cherry on top adds a nice touch.
